All is now set for the final phase of elections into the boards of 23 sports federations at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Thursday, September 30, 2021.

The chairman of the electoral committee, Peter Nelson, said ” The committee is conducting elections into the 23 sports federations that re yet to have their constitutions approved by their international bodies. These elections will be conducted using the 2021 electoral Federales approved by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Ten federations who already have recognized constitutions will use that to conduct their elections”.

The cricket federation recorded giant strides under Professor Yahaya Ukwenya as President and Mr Uyi Akpata as vice president.

During the last four years, Edo state cricket under its association chairman has been the jealousy of every cricket administrator thanks to Mr Akpata. The South-South zonal representative gave the State global prominence as the fastest growing cricket place in the world. Two standard cricket turf were constructed, the first female cricket league was hosted in Edo and well-furnished apartment construction for accommodation for camping athletes and many more historic feats.

Every kid playing cricket in south-south have the assurance of quality cricket kits and competition courtesy of Mr Akpata and so do a team of well-motivated cricket technical backroom staff and volunteers across the zone.

It was therefore a refreshing tale that Mr Uyiosa Akpata has aspired to be the president of the Nigeria cricket federation.

The PET Foundation boss, Akpata has funded cricket campaigns, publicity, training and all-around development programme of U15, U17, U19, senior female and national Men’s teams.

The preferable action is to prepare a congratulations speech for the Nigerian Cricket Titan. But the best thing left was the blessings of the immediate past president of the federation, Prof. Ukweya’s.

“Mr Uyi is a very capable individual, he has been in the administration for four years. He is in the best position to run successfully”

Thursday’s elections will produce Presidents and Vice presidents of the various national sports federations.

The election timetable made available by the committee indicates that the documentation of delegates starts at 9:30 am while the voting commences at 11:30 am.

The election results will be declared immediately, while the Minister, Mr Sunday Dare, ll inaugurate the boards immediately after the elections.
