Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna says the 2017
Gold Cup in Ilorin, Kwara state is good
preparation for the 2017/2018 Nigeria
Professional Football League (NPFL).
Its Technical Adviser, Abubakar Bala made this
known during an interview in Minna on Sunday.
“The 2017 Gold Cup pre-season tournament
that took place in Ilorin recently has given us
the opportunity to correct our weak areas
ahead of the 2017/2018 NPFL.”
Bala said that his side was still perfecting its
acts, adding that there were few areas to be
strengthened before the league commence in
January 2018.
He said that the team was almost set and that
all the areas would be fortified before the
league kicks off.
“I have seen all the players we invited, but you
know all of them cannot be signed at the
same time.
“We are almost done with our players
recruitment, we will only be forced to make
more signings if we noticed that we are not
getting the result we are looking for in certain
areas,’’ he said.
The Technical Adviser said that he was
satisfied with the defence and goalkeeping
sides of the club.
He said that what the team needed now was
to be converting the chances they create to
goals in matches.
“We cannot continue to be wasteful in front of
goal, we must convert the chances we create
in matches and this was why we lost our
game against Kano Pillars in the Gold Cup
semi-finals,’’ he said.
He however said that the club would use the
Shariff Rabi’u Inuwa tournament scheduled for
Dec. 1 to Dec. 10 to perfect the team before
the start of NPFL.
The Technical Adviser said that teams such as
Kano Pillars, MFM Lagos, NPFL defending
champions Plateau United would participate in
the tournament.
Tornadoes has just signed eight new players
for the 2017/2018 NPFL season.
Tornadoes finished 11th position in the
2016/2017 NPFL and emerged as runners-up
in the just concluded AITEO Cup in Lagos.
