Organizers of Ekiti Obas Cup were glad to listen to the football history back in the 60s and 70s from one of the foremost royal fathers in Ekiti State, Owatapa The Great, Oba David Makanjuola Ajaja their recent Trophy Tour to Itapa Ekiti in Oye Local Government area.
The royal father was excited to recieve the organizers in his palace alongside the gold plated trophy that was presented to him by a son of the soil, Ayo Omotosho a. k. a Oscar.
Oba Ajaja lauded the organizers for deeming it fit to visit him saying his love for the round leather game has been since time immemorial.
He recalled when he played football as a young man in his Community and represented the town across the old Ondo State and beyond.
Oba Ajaja also mentioned other royal fathers including the Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti who was described as a prolific footballer too as a young man.
He promised to stand form behind the organizers of the Ekiti Obas Cup saying it has come at the right time when politics is around the corner stressing that such a Competition should be encouraged to discourage thuggery among youth before , during and after the forthcoming Ekiti Governorship election.
Oba David Makanjuola Ajaja popularity called “Soccer” by his admirers recounted the nickname of the Apeju of Ilupeju which he said was “Tear Gas” due to his powerful shots .
Also at the occasion, Engineer Ayo Omotosho was honoured as Pillar of Support for his philanthropist gesture towards encouraging young footballers in Ekiti State.
Omotosho who is the President of Agbana Football Club of Ado Ekiti was elated to recieve the portrait that was presented to him by the organizers of Ekiti Obas Cup promised to support the youth competition with a view to showcasing the name of Itapa Ekiti to the world and making the Community proud by empowering the youth through sports.
