Fans were excited as they celebrated the new coach Ayodeji Ayeni for being instrumental in the club’s first win after five months.
Haven’t been able to record a single win in 18 matches, Sunshine stars of Akure recorded a win against Akwa starlet 1-0 at the Akure township stadium during matchday 26 of the 2020/21 NPFL season.
Sunshine defeated 12th placed Akwa starlet with a lone goal from Ezoenyi in the 45th minutes to gift the host three point after 18 winless matches.
Due to the inability to win a single match after January 31st triumph over Rangers (3-1), the former Coach Gbenga Ogunbote and other technical staffs resigned over non payment of salaries.
Meanwhile, the club engaged the services of Ayodeji Ayeni till the end of the season. Ayodeji who recorded his first win as the gaffer of the relegated threatened club couldn’t express his joy over his first win in 2games he has been in charge so far.
Ayeni while speaking after the match said nothing was done differently at his own end. The gaffer went further that the philosophy and tactics he used was that of former coach Ogunbote.
While speaking about the welfare of the players, Ayeni said he made the management to understand that players needs to be motivated in which they did by paying their wages and “we saw the result of the needful done”.
Currently, Sunshine united sits in the 19th position with 24points.
Meanwhile, Enyimba of Aba went back to winning ways as they demolished visitor’s Adamawa united with Victor Mbaoma’s first strike in the 28th minutes. Adamawa was able to pay back the deficit incurred in the first half by Ogbonna’s levelled in the 68th minutes.
The match would have been a tie before a foul occurred around the penalty area of Adamawa united which led to a penalty kick. Fatai Osho men got the lead with Mohammed’s quick penalty kick in the 76th minute to earn Enyimba maximum point.
