The Ogun State Athletics association says it has selected eighteen qualified athletes that will fly Ogun State’s flag at the forthcoming National Youth Games scheduled for Ilorin, Kwara State in October.
More than two hundred athletes from across the state showed up for trials at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta on Tuesday and competed for National Youth Games spots in Long jump, high jump, shot put as well as sprinting.
The exercises were monitored by the Ogun State Athletics association and state coaches of all the events.
Olympic silver medalist and Chairperson of the Ogun State Athletics Association, Mrs. Falilat Ogunkoya lauded the athletes for the level of competition, she expressed optimism that they will deliver at the youth games proper.
She however appealed to the state government to assist in funding subsequent camping exercise in order to get the best out of the athletes.
The 2021 National Youth Games will hold in Kwara State between October 10 and 19.
