After the attempt by the Commissioner to prevent the meeting planned by Athletes and coaches ahead of the National sport festival, eventually the meeting took place at the Oluyemi Kayode stadium in Ado Ekiti in early hours on Tuesday.
As earlier reported by NAIRASPORTS that the Commissioner sent security personnel as early as 5am to prevent athletes and coaches to have a civil discussion on how to plan for the forthcoming Festival.
While speaking with one of the coaches who preferred to be anonymous told NAIRASPORTS that the outcome of the meeting is to have three athletes in the national sports festival committee which will be chaired by the Commissioner for sport Mr. Michael Awopetu.
The elderly man said further that the reason is to monitor the activities of the committee.
The coach who had earlier said the Ekiti governor Dr. John Fayemi gave out #15 million for the preparation of the sport festival but till date the ministry still owes them money.
He said during the last camping the Commissioner offered the athletes five thousands which they refused after poor welfare. Coaches were also offered five thousands as well.
“The sole reason for the meeting is to plan ahead of the sport festival and get the government to make necessary preparations for our welfare” says the Coach.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Sports has announced that the National sport festival will commence later this year with several states have been regrouping there athletes in order to prepare for the Nigeria’s biggest sport activity known as Nigeria Olympics.
