Football player slumps, die during match in Lekki

An unidentified football player has collapsed and died while playing at the Green Field Football Ground, Lekki, Lagos.

Lagos state Police Public Relations, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this on his Twitter handle on Monday.

He noted that officials from Maroko police division notified the state command of the incident.

The PPRO said the 31-year old relatively unknown soccer player died at about 6.30 p.m. on Friday.

It was said that the late footballer was hurried to Ever Care Hospital in Lekki where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.

“Based on the report, a team of detectives visited the football scene and the hospital where the corpse was inspected and photographs taken.

“The corpse has been deposited at a public morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, investigation is in progress,” Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed.

He, however, urged members of the public, particularly sports persons, not to push their limits and go regular medical check-ups
