After the frustration of the festive 5,000th at Goodison Park, it is back to the comforts of ho-ho-home on Boxing Day, with the third successive set of guests from the South Coast in west London.

Brighton’s visit is the first instalment of this season’s quick turnaround fixture, with all the clubs facing each other again in three weeks’ time. It is over 29 years since their last trip to Stamford Bridge.

So far this season, two-thirds of the Seagulls’ points have come at home, but they have lost the same ratio of away games. In fact no team has slipped up more times on the road than their six, which include the last three games at Spurs, Huddersfield and Manchester United.

This is the fifth successive Boxing Day fixture at home for Chelsea, and Brighton are the 48th different Premier League side to play at the Bridge.
