Just days after Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James surpassed the 30,000-point mark, another member on his famed “banana boat” also made some noise on the NBA’s career scoring list.
It wasn’t Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul. As of Saturday night, he has 16,194 career points.
It wasn’t Cleveland Cavaliers shooting guard Dwyane Wade, either. He has 21,782.
That leaves Carmelo Anthony.
Entering Saturday’s game against the Detroit Pistons with 24,983 points, Melo scored 21 points on 8-of-21 shooting, thus passing the 25,000-point threshold. He became the 21st player in league history to surpass 25,000 career points and is now third on the active player list behind LeBron James and Dirk Nowitzki.
In a statement issued through the NBA, commissioner Adam Silver said, “Congratulations to Carmelo on joining the 25,000-point club and for his remarkable scoring ability and consistency over 15 seasons.”
