Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament: Actions begin after colourful draws ceremony
It is football extravaganza in Benin as the maiden edition of Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament kicked off as planned as actions begin across designated venues with Heartland recording a 1-0 victory over Rolly Angels FC of Benin in the first game.
At the Western Boys mini stadium, FC Robo outclassed Royal Queens of Warri 5-0 while reigning NWFL champions Rivers Angels also punished the Fortress Ladies of Benin 4-0 in the second game at the University of Benin Sports Complex.
The big game was the match between two NWFL giants Bayelsa Queens and Confluence Queens which ended in a barren draw.
Meanwhile, the game between Sunshine and Kaduna Queens scheduled for 1pm today at Western Boys High School has been postponed to Wednesday morning due to delayed arrival of the Kaduna Queens team.
The host state’s team Edo Queens FC were expected to take on Naija Ratels in the opening ceremony game at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. Time is 4:00PM.
The Tournament started on Sunday with a colourful draws ceremony which held amid pomp and pageantry with the Minister of Sports ,Mr Sunday Dare and two ex-Super Falcons’ stars Nkiru Okosieme and Igunbor Okunwa heaping praise on Edo first lady Betsy Obaseki,sports loving Deputy Governor Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki for the initiative aimed at promoting women Football Development in the country.
