Ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Nike who returned as kit makers of Nigerian football designed two jerseys, Home and Away kit.
For the home kit, Nike draws inspiration from their 1995 jersey which they also designed for Nigeria. The white home jersey has a bright green and white zigzag design which spreads across the globe.
The away kit is a variation of Nigeria’s fully green strip.
Nigerians believe that since the existence of the away jersey, it has brought bad luck to the team.
The defeat against Desert foxes at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations semifinals on Sunday has made Nigerians believed that the jersey is ill luck.
Since the emergence of the jersey super eagles has won three matches with just a competitive match, while the two is a friendly match.
Eagles defeated Poland in a Pre warm up match ahead of the 2018 world cup in Russia and international friendly against the pharaohs of Egypt in March earlier this year which both ended a goal to nil.
To book a ticket at the ongoing African of Nations in Egypt, Eagles defeated Libya 3-2 in Tunisia in one of the qualifier.
Meanwhile, the jersey ill luck started at the 2018 FIFA world cup opener against Crotia where eagles lost 2-0 and in the last group game against Argentina 2-1.
At AFCON, eagles suffered first defeat to a debutant at the tournament, Madagascar 2-0 in last game of the group stage
