The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Oyo State chapter has felicitated with the players, coaches, officials and the management of Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan on their well deserved return to the elite division of Nigerian league.
Oyo SWAN, in a congratulatory message signed by the Association’s Chairman, Niyi Alebiosu and its Secretary, Adewale Tijani, applauded the heroic performance of the players and ingenuity of the Edith Agoye led coaching crew who completed their promotion task in Enugu on Saturday with a six – nil whitewash of Ekiti United.
“No doubt, the promotion of Shooting Stars is not a fluke. It’s as a result of the determination and resourcefulness of the players who recorded an unprecedented nine game winning streak and one year unbeaten runs spanning from 2020 to 2021”, the Association pointed out.
The body of sports journalists in Oyo State also poured encomiums on the team’s management led by the Alhaji Rasheed Balogun and an ex international, Dimeji Lawal whose untiring efforts and shrewdness bolstered the morale of the team.
While attributing the success of the Oluyole Warriors to the massive moral and financial supports they enjoyed from the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde, Oyo SWAN showered praises on him for his exemplary and benevolent leadership which had positively touched all aspects of lives of Oyo State indigenes and residents.
“To be frank, this promotion being celebrated wouldn’t have been possible without the massive motivation and total support from the sports loving Governor of Oyo State, who has been their number one fan in the last two years. Aside funding the team adequately, the Governor has also remodelled the home ground of Oluyole Warriors, Lekan Salami stadium to ensure that its fans and lovers of round leather game enjoy good football. Therefore, we thank Governor Makinde for his putting smile on the faces of youths and sports lovers in the state through his laudable development of sports as well as motivation of athletes and officials”, Oyo SWAN said.
While eulogizing the state government and 3SC, the umbrella body of sports writers tasked them not to relent but rather see the promotion of Oluyole Warriors as a means to an end, which is the restoration of the club’s lost glories.
“We enjoined the management of 3SC to see the promotion to NPFL as a way to return the club to its former glorious position as one of the best teams in Africa. The team should intensify efforts next season and ensure they grab a continental competition ticket for 2022/23 season. In addition, we appeal to government to increase its moral and financial supports to the club and other representatives of the state in national and international sports competitions”, it said in its advice to the stakeholders.
The Association of sports journalists further commended the 3SC fans and Supporters Club under the able leadership of Mr Oluwafemi Oyeniyi for their unalloyed support and solidarity to their darling team throughout the period Oluyole Warriors were trying to return to the elite division of Nigerian league.
The Association then charged the 3SC Supporters Club to continue to give massive supports to the club so as the efforts of the club management to restore its lost glories will be fruitful.
