Enugu Rangers defeated Bendel insurance a goal to nil to picked super 6 play off ticket in Aba.
Substitute Felix Ogbuke scored a late goal for Rangers International against Bendel Insurance to grab all three points for the Flying Antelopes and send them into the end of season NPFL title playoff.
The win means Rangers have secured a playoff spot with two matches to spare and are now in contention to win a record eighth NPFL title.
For Ogbuke, it is the second time he has come off the bench to save Rangers the blushes in back-to-back home matches against Kwara United and Bendel Insurance.
Prior to the match Rangers knew that a win could see them qualify for the playoff should results go their way and it looked like the Flying Antelopes were going to wait for another round of fixtures as the match was heading for a draw before Ogbuke’s miscued cross found its way into the the back of the net to send the home crowd into frenzy.
The match was a tight contest with few scoring chances for both sides especially in the first half. This forced both head coaches to make two substitutions each early in the second half. Rangers head coach Gbenga Ogunbute sent in Ifeanyi Egwim and Okey Odita before withdrawing ex-Super Eagles striker Michael Uchebo for Ogbuke with 19 minutes to time.
This proved to be the winning substitution as Ogbuke was lively from the moment he came on, delivering crosses which constantly threatened to break the Insurance defence. Coincidentally, it was one of Ogbuke’s crosses which seemed over hit, deceived everyone including Insurance goalkeeper Amas Obasogie before landing into the net.
From kickoff it was apparent Insurance were playing for a draw and they were almost rewarded with a point as they defended brilliantly, limiting the hosts to long range shots which barely threatened. They will have to work hard to maintain their position in the NPFL.
