Yesterday, It was a dramatic scene at the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti where Ekiti State athletes camped ahead of the National sport festival.
Following series of agitations by the athletes protesting poor hospitality and welfarism from the state ministry of sports
The Ekiti state commissioner for sport Mr. Michael Awopetu, while addressing the sport men, apologize for the inconveniences experience by the athletes, blaming it on the unprecedented postponement of the National sports festival.
He further explained that there was no prior arrangements from the government to pay camp allowances and that the money available is for the Edo festival.
Mixed reactions however trails as a section of the athletes laments that they ought to have joined other states which had invited them but chose Ekiti as a proof of allegiance to the state.
After several rows of, dialogue from the commissioner and officials from the sport council, Mr. Michael Awopetu agreed to pay the athletes a sum of two thousand naira just so as to transport themselves to there various destinations.
The players however disagreed until it was raised to five thousand naira. The players who are left with no choice agreed to the deal of five thousand naira after six days in camp.
However, the payment has been confirmed while speaking with one the officials who spoke with nairasport correspondent told him that the last batch was paid this afternoon. Although officials rejected the token of five thousand naira offered to them by the government.
