Over 2000 young footballers will storm the Ogun state Capital, Abeokuta for the third edition of Waasinmi Summer Soccer Championship in August.
The Organizers of the Championship disclosed that all arrangement has been concluded towards staging a fruitful event for the third edition.
At a Press Conference to held at the palace of the Oniwaasinmi of Waasinmi, Oba Babatunde Osuntogun on Friday, it was gathered that Unique Sports Foundation and Segun Odegbami International College and Sports Academy are the major sponsor of the championship.
Chief organizer of the Championship, Coach Victor Agagu confirmed that trophies and medals will be contested for in two different match venues in Waasinmi, the Baptist secondary school pitch as well as the Segun Odegbami Sports Academy playing pitch.
Registration for the Championship is still in progress and will run through July 31, 2019.
Players, coaches and all other backroom staff are expected to arrive between August 15 and 16, draws in various categories will be held on August, 3, while screening for players in the Under age category involving the under 10, under 13, and 15 will take place on the 17th of August.
The championship is scheduled for August 18, 2019, and the grand finale is billed for September 1, 2019.
Teams from Abuja, Delta State, Kwara, Lagos and Ogun State among others have already registered for the championship, and more entries are still being expected.
Measures have been put in place to ensure a hitch free soccer fiesta with a synergy with security operatives already established, while medical personels will also be on ground from the beginning of the Championship till the end.
It was also revealed that the Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Coaches Association have put on hold all events scheduled for August in order to be part of the summer Championship.
Scouts from different parts of the world are also involved in the project
